Your First Visit

Consultation: At your first acupuncture appointment we will have a comprehensive intake from you. We ask questions about your chief complaint, current state of health, past illnesses, family history and life styles. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.

Treatment: After intake and exam (pulse, tongue or physical exams), we will develop a personalized treatmemt plan. You will lie down in a comfortable position. The acupuncturist will insert the needles into specific acupoints to activate your qi, unblock stagnated Qi or blood to stimulate your body’s healing process. We may add other modalities such as cupping, Gua Sha, Moxibustion, and Electrical Stimulation to acupuncture needles to address your specific issues.

Relaxation: The needles remain in place for 15-30 minutes while you relax. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.

Aftercare: Post-treatment, you might feel energized or very relaxed. Your acupuncturist will provide aftercare tips and may recommend Chinese herbs, and dietary or lifestyle changes to enhance your healing process.
